This session aims to introduce the new technology at Blue Ridge Medical Center. Before we start, let’s briefly overview the telehealth integration proposed for our organization—a solution to address current challenges such as care gaps, inconsistent reports, medical errors, and appointment adherence issues. The need assessment recommends a telehealth-integrated EHR, specifically a medicine portal, to enhance clinical outcomes. Objectives Let’s delve into the presentation’s objectives: Purpose of the Telehealth Integrated EHR System The telehealth-integrated EHR combines telehealth technology with electronic health records. It facilitates virtual care, online consultations, and diagnostic treatment, improving record accuracy, providing portal access, error-free care, and informed decision-making (Haleem et al., 2021). Studies support telehealth’s role in coordinated care for chronic patients, offering timely assistance and reducing hospital-acquired infections (Davidson, 2020; Burton et al., 2022). The integrated system enhances healthcare delivery, promoting patient engagement and reducing costs. Use of Telehealth-Integrated EHRs This system enables virtual consultations, reducing waiting times and infection risks. Patients, doctors, and nurses can access medical advice, records, and treatment plans, enhancing healthcare accessibility and reducing costs (Jin et al., 2020; Gajarawala & Pelkowski, 2021). However, limitations include challenges in physical examinations and potential impacts on the patient-provider relationship. Addressing these concerns is crucial for successful implementation. Risks and Benefits of Telehealth-Integrated EHR System Benefits include increased access to care, remote monitoring, and enhanced patient engagement. Risks involve privacy issues, digital literacy challenges, technical glitches, and a potential lack of personal touch in patient-provider interactions. Some organizations may resist due to resource constraints or fear of disruption to traditional care models. Overcoming these challenges requires strategic planning and ongoing evaluation. Requirement for Successful Deployment Critical considerations for successful deployment include technological infrastructure, data security, and interoperability. Upgrading systems, ensuring data security, and comprehensive training are vital components of a successful implementation (Pandit et al., 2023; Dutta & Hwang, 2020). Patient education is essential for informed decision-making. Nurses play a crucial role in providing education, ensuring patients understand the benefits and risks, and facilitating seamless integration. Patient Confidentiality and Privacy Ensuring patient confidentiality involves adherence to HIPAA regulations, end-to-end encryption, data audits, informed consent, and clear communication. These measures aim to protect patient information and maintain trust in the system. Evaluation and Criteria for Assessing Effectiveness Effectiveness will be evaluated through comparative analysis, end-user feedback, and hospital statistics. Criteria include patient satisfaction, data security, provider efficiency, and financial impact. Ongoing evaluation ensures continuous improvement. Ongoing Training and Technical Support Regular training sessions, workshops, webinars, and user-friendly manuals will be provided to address ongoing concerns. Certification, a help desk, and IT support will contribute to successful ongoing implementation. However, challenges such as knowledge retention, evolving technology, and turnover require continuous planning and adaptation.
