NHS FPX 5004 Assessment 4 Self-Assessment of Leadership, Collaboration, and Ethics

Student Name Capella University NHS-FPX 5004 Communication, Collaboration, and Case Analysis for Master’s Learners Prof. Name Date Self-Assessment of Leadership, Collaboration, and Ethics All organizations throughout the world work following a hierarchy where the leader is the one who works hard to fulfill his duties by achieving organizational goals and mission. Leaders should have various characteristics which enable them to perform their roles and responsibilities with a commitment to desired outcomes. A leader must become a role model for their team members to make certain that team is on the right track. The focus of this assessment is to self-evaluate my leadership qualities. Moreover, I will also share the ethical dilemmas that I faced during my leadership role.  Section I: Leadership and Collaboration Qualities in a Leadership Role  Leadership Qualities and Actions in Specific Experience In the year 2019, after completing my 10 years of service in Adult Internal Medicine Unit as a Registered Nurse, I got the opportunity to become a head nurse and lead a team of 45 nurses and nurse assistants. My responsibilities as the head nurse were to manage unit affairs like patient care issues, staffing issues, and collaborating with the nurse manager to look after the service line concerns. Moreover, I was also responsible for taking care of administrative issues by appropriately cooperating with the concerned departments. Other than these roles, one of the major roles that I played as a head nurse was leadership role. My roles as a leader included; supporting and advocating on behalf of my team, helping them to help our patients in a way that patients feel valued and their needs are fulfilled, encouraging them to improve their productivity by constantly inspiring them, and assisting them in solving conflicts to provide better healthcare (Ika et al., 2019; Qtait, 2023). The shared vision of the team was to provide effective patient care using standard practices to make certain that the patients are satisfied with the healthcare quality and that their health outcomes are improved. Moreover, the goal was to ensure that the team of healthcare professionals is well-trained and has adequate competencies to provide quality healthcare to the patients, help the organization fulfill its mission, and achieve growth and success.  Leadership Model and Core Values The leadership model that I mainly used for my overall leadership role is the transformational style however, in certain cases, I used democratic leadership as well in certain situations. Transformational leaders are those who engage with their team members to pursue shared goals. These leaders are sometimes called “inspiring” leaders because they build a trusting professional relationship with the team to encourage them and make them feel valued (Collins et al., 2019). During my role as a head nurse, the core values that I used at every step were making my team members (nurses and nurse aids) feel empowered and motivated within their roles. Moreover, I build strong and accessible lines of communication so that their concerns are heard and resolved. My profession as a head nurse allowed me to be welcoming and friendly with my team keeping the expectations high related to patients’ health outcomes. Besides this, I also equipped a democratic style of leadership in certain situations where the consensus from my team, their ideas and thoughts, and their opinions were asked to make them feel valued in this unit. Nurse leaders should value the opinions of nurses as they are the frontline staff taking care of healthcare consumers. Leaders who apply a democratic approach foster teams’ participation in decision-making, thus improving their morale. It also improves their sense of responsibility and teamwork. NHS FPX 5004 Assessment 4 Self-Assessment of Leadership, Collaboration, and Ethics This approach assists leaders in adding core values of trust, equity, open mindset, and mutual respect within the team which improves employees’ satisfaction thus resulting in better patient outcomes (Ebrahim et al., 2022). These leadership styles were successful in achieving the shared goals of the team as evidenced by a reduced number of complaints from the employees about being frustrated in their jobs, improved patients’ satisfaction levels, and decreased number of unsafe healthcare practices within the unit. Moreover, in terms of my personal and professional growth, I was rewarded with the best leader award for the year. My nurse manager frequently appreciated my initiatives and reforms within the organization that was improving the organizational performance and consumer rates.   Decision-making and Effective Communication Throughout my role, I got several opportunities to make decisions and effectively communicate with the team. There were many decisions that I made which I am proud of. For example implementation of EMAR and bar-code medication administration. This was a reform that was initiated holistically throughout the organization. Other important decisions that I made were in terms of patient care, improving staff competencies, and enhancing unit infrastructure. One of the experiences that I remember where a staff nurse neglected a patient’s medication which resulted in adverse events for the patient. In this situation, I showed autocratic behavior towards the staff and reprimanded her to show the importance of patient care and unacceptance of negligence especially in terms of medication. However, I have this realization that I should have communicated with the staff before imposing a decision on how and why this incident occurred to ensure the decision is made after analyzing all facts and figures.  Another important role that I played was effectively communicating the vision and goals with the team members. Communication about vision in an organization by effective leaders promotes team motivation by providing them the meaningful responsibilities within their roles. It strengthens the connection between employees and the organization thus giving them the drive to work for achieving the outcomes (Gochmann et al., 2022). My approach to communicating the vision and goals was to bring everyone on one platform. I used the techniques of engagement, frequent sessions, and personal and individualized meetings where I shared these goals. Moreover, I created a delegation team under my supervision (team leaders) and meetings were conducted to ensure

NHS FPX 5004 Assessment 3 Diversity Project Kickoff Presentation

Student Name Capella University NHS-FPX 5004 Communication, Collaboration, and Case Analysis for Master’s Learners Prof. Name Date Diversity Project Kickoff Presentation Hello everyone, this is Wilfrid and the topic of today’s presentation is Diversity project kick off.. First of all, I would like to take the opportunity to thank you all for your kind presence. It is planed with the aim of helping the team to work collaboratively to ensure that the hospital fulfills its goal of creating an inclusive and yet culturally accepting environment for the employees as well as the patients. First of all, I would like to begin with the project’s goals and priorities.  Project Goals and Priorities  This diversity project is an initiative that is based on bringing the diversity and cultures sensitivity together to draw the attention of the individuals and develop a association that is purely based on quality of care (LeBlanc, et al., 2020).  The need of diversity is important in regards of understanding the world and its people around us and making sure that we comprehend why people behave they way they do or how to contemplate the world around us. The goals of the current project are; Goals  NHS FPX 5004 Assessment 3 Diversity Project Kickoff Presentation Priorities  The first hand priorities of the project is to enhance the associations between all the groups.  Team Building and Their Characteristics The interprofessional team will be consist of major stakeholders of the organization that holds immense importance in decision making such as;  Interprofessional Collaboration  The interprofessional collaboration within the organization will be based on bringing the outcome that is based on implementing effective strategies that ensure that all the team members contribute to the project to make it successful. This collaboration will be based on providing a culture of cultural welcomeness and competency where staff is aware of each other values and their patient’s values to avoid conflict or to effectively manage the conflict (Kotera, et al., 2022). Similarly, the cultural sensitivity training and development helps in providing hands on training and providing the effective communication and ensuring that the information does not lost in translation. Patients who feel safe and welcomed in the healthcare setting are more likely to seek treatment, which in turn helps reduce healthcare inequalities and improves access (Sabatello, 2018). The Mayo Clinic, CVS Health, and CDC Health are just a few examples of healthcare businesses that are committed to diversity and inclusion in their practices. All of these workplaces encourages inclusivity and diversity by hiring people belonging to different race, social class and ethnicity to help people connect better and provide culturally tailored-made care.  Conclusion  This presentation is based on providing information regarding the varsity project. This project is based on providing information regarding the goals of the project, such as inclusivity training and providing an environment that is open for all there as a Priority of this project will be given to giving training to the staff to ensure that the staff is culturally competent enough to deal with the cultural diversity and issues associated with these cultural obligations and values. However, the major role in this aspect is team building, and the correct districts of the team, such as an intellectualized team, are more competent in dealing with competency issues and diversity issues to train the new upcoming employees. The team will be comprised of the policymakers, educators, chief finance officer, chief nursing officer, and heads of departments; these are all the stick holders that are simply important in managing diversity issues and providing Useful information regarding dealing with such issues The collaboration will be based on providing cultural competency; the training should be culturally sensitive, along with providing effective ways of communicating without being hurt or offended. Lastly, the work places such as my CVC health and CDC health provide an exceptional example regarding how diversity and culture competency can go hand in hand and make the organization work in such a better flow that it provides benefits in supporting and promoting diversity. NHS FPX 5004 Assessment 2 Leadership and Group Collaboration

Student Name Capella University NHS-FPX 5004 Communication, Collaboration, and Case Analysis for Master’s Learners Prof. Name Date Leadership and Group Collaboration Lynnette Lakeland Medical Clinic Thank you for providing me with this opportunity to work alongside you on this project for our organization. This project will enable me to identify and prove my leadership abilities thus improving organizational issues. Healthcare organizations require effective leadership and collaboration so that organizational’ concerns can be resolved to improve patients’ satisfaction and healthcare quality (Restivo et al., 2022). The email that I received from you precisely explained that the focus of this project is the lack of understanding and acceptance of a diverse patient population among healthcare professionals. This issue is negatively impacting the organization’s patient influx because the patients do not feel comfortable in an environment where the staff is unable to understand their cultural values and beliefs. The culturally and religious diversified populations in the world impose a challenge for healthcare professionals to provide culturally competent care with the acceptance of diversity. This advocates the need of developing cultural competence among healthcare professionals, which is the ability to understand and accept the social, cultural, and religious views and beliefs of patients so that these factors can be incorporated to deliver culturally competent and preferred care to the patients (Swihart et al., 2023).  NHS FPX 5004 Assessment 2 Leadership and Group Collaboration Projects like these that include leadership and group collaboration entail the use of various leadership qualities which will assist leaders in effectively creating and executing the plans. These skills include effective communication, interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, appropriate task delegation, decision-making, and the use of applicable leadership styles. Moreover, a patient-centered approach should be utilized to ensure that the vision behind the project is successfully achieved (Nieuwboer et al., 2018). A leader should have the ability to work inclusively with and for the team members by appropriately communicating the goals and plans for the implementation of the diversity issue project. This communication should not be imposed rather it should authorize the staff to develop an insight within them for incorporating the behavior in their clinical practices. Furthermore, the leader must possess decision-making ability so that if the team is stuck at any point, a leader can actively take in-charge to address the issue. Lastly, the leader should encourage their team to participate throughout the planning, implementation, and evaluation stages so that staff feels empowered and bring changes in their practices.  Comparison of Own’s Leadership Qualities and the Chosen Leader The leader that I would like to choose for this project should be like Randy Oostra, who is the CEO and president of ProMedica, US. Randy Oostra is one of the top leaders in the United States healthcare sector where he left his successful career as a consultant to help communities and bring reforms to healthcare sectors. ProMedica is a not-for-profit organization that operates in several US states which includes educational centers, hospitals, and nursing care homes. The organization has received several awards and high-star ratings in terms of the provision of quality care. It is also named among America’s best employers.  Randy Oostra has been a visionary leader whose focus was to keep services and the community balanced together. His ability to make effective decisions enabled him to successfully run the organization. Moreover, he kept his focus on community care so that staff can provide need-based and effective care keeping in mind the individualized factors of the patients and residents. The similarity between the Oostra’s and my leadership style is that both of us are focused on the goals and vision of the project thus, this will enable us to make effective solutions and implement them for our consumers in a successful manner. NHS FPX 5004 Assessment 2 Leadership and Group Collaboration For example; Randy Oostra kept his focus on providing services to the community for better health outcomes. Similarly, my focus throughout the project will be to ensure that healthcare professionals can provide culturally competent care to patients to achieve desired patient satisfaction. I will further bring reforms and innovations to the organization so that organization succeeds in the healthcare sector. One of the different approaches that I will use is bringing inclusivity and diversity in the healthcare forces from the community itself so that they will be able to better understand the values and beliefs that people behold.  Leadership Role Throughout the Project Throughout the project, I will play various leadership roles under the model of transformational leadership. The transformational leadership model is described as the leadership approach where a leader brings changes in their team members by inspiring them, creating a trustworthy environment, encouraging them to bring reforms, admiring innovations, and implementing them in the organization (Khan et al., 2020). Some of the approaches that I will use throughout the project are: Effective Collaboration in Professional Team  I will ensure that the transformational leadership style is carried forward along with collaboration with the staff to effectively address the diversity and lack of cultural competence in the staff. This collaboration will be done by establishing an interprofessional committee with various staff from different professions as well as community leaders. This interprofessional team will together identify the specific needs, cultural values, and beliefs of the patients living within the community so that patient-centered care, equitable, and justified care is provided (Samuriwo, 2022). Moreover, the interprofessional collaboration will ensure the sharing of knowledge and skills/competencies to promote employee satisfaction which will eventually result in better patient outcomes.  Effective collaboration between team members especially in a healthcare setting requires open and accessible communication lines which helps in building a professional and reliable relationship (Jankelová & Joniaková, 2021). The team will be encouraged to have weekly meetings where they will discuss their concerns related to the patients and healthcare to ensure their collaboration is meaningful for the consumers. Team members will be motivated and encouraged by their culturally competent care through various rewards and recognition. Furthermore, the team will be provided training on

NHS FPX 5004 Assessment 1 Leadership and Group Collaboration

Student Name Capella University NHS-FPX 5004 Communication, Collaboration, and Case Analysis for Master’s Learners Prof. Name Date Leadership and Group Collaboration In light of our previous conversations and subsequent written exchanges, I wish to convey my sincere interest in assuming the role of Project Leader. Although the identified needs for this project may be disheartening, I appreciate the organization’s active commitment to engaging the community in generating impactful and sustainable solutions through organizational capabilities and industry best practices. As a healthcare professional, my commitment to the well-being of others is of paramount importance. Since the beginning of my academic journey and entry into the healthcare sector as a trained professional, the Hippocratic Oath has served as my ethical compass. While traditionally associated with physicians, its principles of medical confidentiality and non-maleficence have guided me throughout my career. If given the opportunity to serve, I intend to uphold these ethical principles in all my duties and responsibilities. Initial assessments indicate that our target community of Haitians exhibits reluctance in utilizing prescribed healthcare services, as evidenced by significantly reduced utilization rates. This apprehension is often rooted in cultural values and norms not fully understood or respected. Furthermore, an internal employee survey has shown that 75% of employees directly or indirectly serving this target community have expressed “concerns” not only regarding diversity but also workplace incivility and poor work-life balance. While I have inquiries regarding survey methodologies, community engagement strategies, and resource allocation, I am confident in my ability to address these pressing issues based on my training, experience, and passion. Central to my approach to leadership and collaboration is an unwavering commitment to clarity. NHS FPX 5004 Assessment 1 Leadership and Group Collaboration From my earliest years to the present, I have sought effectiveness in all my endeavors. My approach emphasizes the clear definition of goals and objectives, along with the establishment of a precise direction and the means by which these goals and objectives will be achieved. This approach has consistently proven successful in my youth, educational pursuits, and my entire professional career. During my undergraduate studies, I encountered Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, which suggests that once a deficit need is satisfactorily met, it diminishes, and our activities shift towards fulfilling the next set of needs. This concept is applicable to business, where continued growth, observation, collaboration, and assessment are essential. Successful managers align their vision with that of the larger organization they are part of (Davis, Hellervik, Sheard, Skube, & Gebelein, 1996). In today’s workplace, project leadership is pivotal to success. All of humanity’s greatest achievements, from constructing the great pyramids to discovering a cure for polio to landing a man on the moon, began as projects (Larson & Gray, 2018). While commonly associated with the private sector for ensuring efficient productivity, project management is equally vital for achieving desired societal outcomes. A successful project leader effectively utilizes all available resources, including human resources. NHS FPX 5004 Assessment 1 Leadership and Group Collaboration For our discussion, the ideal project leader should value diversity. As an African-American female, I can readily relate to the historical and ongoing challenges faced by “communities of color” and historically marginalized groups such as women. While I do not compare myself to Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK), his approach during the Civil Rights Movement exemplifies outstanding project leadership. As a leader, I possess numerous professional and personal qualities essential for successfully leading the project team. Similar to MLK, I am characterized by a deep sense of love and compassion for the well-being of others. In both my professional and personal life, I am deeply troubled by inequities resulting from the fundamental disregard or marginalization of others. Regarding our current task, the Haitian community is diverse in itself, as well as in comparison to the larger diaspora in the United States. Understanding the historical significance, international relationships, resource allocation, governance, and immigration policies that impact the Haitian residents’ experiences is a priority. We must immerse ourselves in this history and align with those willing to comprehend it. NHS FPX 5004 Assessment 1 Leadership and Group Collaboration Another critical requirement for a successful project leader is the ability to build effective collaborations. As history teaches us, MLK forged powerful collaborations even among groups with opposing interests. In my healthcare leadership role, I also leverage collaboration to ensure successful healthcare outcomes. This involves managing personnel, insurance, diagnoses, emotional and legal considerations. I have found that establishing and maintaining effective collaboration is essential for project leadership. Whether identifying project stakeholders, balancing technical and sociocultural needs, distinguishing routine operations from project-specific tasks, or leading throughout all project stages, effective leadership is crucial. The composition of the interdisciplinary group of professionals will be a primary focus of my leadership in this project. My understanding is that the projected team size will be 4-6 individuals. After ensuring an effective process for identifying and selecting these team members, I would initiate initial communications with those selected to schedule our inaugural meeting. Once the team is assembled, I would introduce myself formally, offering insights into my identity as both a person and a leader. As a collaborative leader, I value diverse ideas, opinions, and viewpoints expressed professionally. While all viewpoints are valued, it is vital that I maintain appropriate decision-making authority while overseeing overall execution. Potential conflicts may arise if some team members feel their viewpoints were not fully incorporated into our decisions. However, as a leader, I am committed to demonstrating courage and aligning differing viewpoints with our project goals. Ensuring team input in setting project goals and designating stakeholders to ensure timely execution will further mitigate potential conflicts. To foster effective collaboration, I plan to utilize all available resources to lead and encourage open communication within the team. NHS FPX 5004 Assessment 1 Leadership and Group Collaboration Our communication will take place within a designated project management tool. For instance, Microsoft Project has proven effective, offering powerful tools for documenting, communicating, measuring, analyzing, and tracking resource utilization throughout the project cycle. Team
