    Locating Credible Databases and Research

    Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) is trustworthy and dependable evidence to guide nursing care. Nurses use EBP to improve the safety and quality of the patients. EBP is the basis for informed decision-making. They are effective in problem-solving in treatments and patient care. EBP is broadly known for improving healthcare quality and patient outcomes (Cook et al., 2019). Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease with no limits. It appears when the body fails to regulate blood glucose levels. This results in the kidneys producing excessive urine. It causes many health problems, including heart disease, kidney problems, nerve damage, and vision. Diabetes is predicted to cause approximately 1.5 million deaths directly, with 2.2 million individuals dying due to the disease. (Suryasa et al., 2021). According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of people with diabetes scaled from 108 million to 422 million (Bansal, 2020). 

    This assessment is based on a scenario in which a newly graduated nurse, still in her training period, is charged with caring for a patient who is diagnosed with diabetes. This is the nurse’s first assignment. She needs more confidence in using evidence-based procedures to treat the patient’s illness. This assessment’s primary goal is to describe effective communication strategies that the nurse management uses to support and guide the novice nurse in performing a complete investigation on the diagnosis of the patient. It explains how to evaluate the source’s information authenticity within the research activity and the main criteria for choosing the most trustworthy sources. A carefully selected collection of suggested sources and justifications for their selection is provided in this paper.

    Communication Strategies to Encourage Nurses

    Effective communication strategies encourage collaboration between senior and junior nurses. It gives resources and help to new nurses in their research efforts. Senior nurses create a collaborative and nonjudgmental environment for junior nurses. In this environment, junior nurses freely share their ideas and concerns about a patient’s condition, and senior nurses actively listen and provide encouraging feedback.  This strategy shows a favorable impact that enhances nurses’ communication and teamwork. Encouraging new nurses to build patient relationships through good communication is essential.

    This method promotes Patient-Centered Care (PCC) by meeting patients’ needs, fears, and preferences. This creates trust and mutual respect throughout the care process. These strategies help new nurses to gain professional competence and positive professional relationships in their careers.

    Nurses play an essential part in improving patient care by utilizing the power of research to identify and implement the most effective best practices. Nurses get access to a range of excellent resources in hospitals that make a perfect research environment. Nurse workstations are equipped with hospital computers that support easy finding of various information, allowing them to use the most up-to-date knowledge and guidelines to improve patient care. Another significant resource available to nurses is the hospital’s enormous library filled with policies, procedures, and guidelines. In addition, the computer lab provides a gateway to a massive online library containing crucial databases for medical research such as CINAHL, Google Scholar, PubMed, Medline, and the Cochrane Library.

    These databases contain various evidence-based information to support nursing research and practice. Nurses are recommended to use the CRAAP test to ensure the highest possible standard of research. It is a systematic evaluation approach comprising five crucial criteria: currency, relevance, authority, accuracy, and purpose (Lowe et al., 2021). Nurses use this thorough evaluation to select the most trustworthy and relevant materials for their research attempts.

    Numerous online resources provide diabetic information that is notable due to their remarkable trustworthiness and usefulness. The American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org/) is recognized as the leading resource for Diabetes. They provide a complete overview of diabetes symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment methods. The peer-reviewed journals Diabetes and Journal of Diabetes Research come next to one another regarding relevance and authenticity. These journals are valued for publishing original research in diabetes. They offer evidence-based practices and up-to-date research findings.

    They provide evidence-based methods and current study findings. The websites of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) (https://www.niddk.nih.gov/)  and the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists (https://www.diabeteseducator.org/) are helpful. These websites provide trustworthy diabetic information backed up by research and relevant data. The American Diabetes Association is frequently regarded as the most reliable of these resources due to its specific focus on diabetes. It contains a vast library of knowledge ranging from basic comprehension to advanced treatment strategies.

    Justification for Choosing Credible Sources of Diabetes

    The above sources are trustworthy and dependable sources of evidence-based information on diabetes management and nursing care. There are the following reasons. 

    • The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is a non-profit organization and its website provides online credible sources. By funding research, they fight against diabetes. They provide education and support to patients. They help people with diabetes and their families (American Diabetes Association, 2020). 
    • The journal Diabetes helps in the field of diabetes to spread new knowledge. They publish original research by promoting evidence-based clinical practices. They motivate researchers to do more research in diabetes-related areas that contribute to advancements in understanding and managing the disease.
    • The Journal of Diabetes Research promotes information exchange by publishing original research, reviews, and articles on various aspects of diabetes. Displaying contributions from researchers worldwide promotes collaboration and idea sharing. It makes them more accessible to a larger audience.

    • The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) is a credible website resource for diabetes. By conducting and supporting research on the disease, they improve the health and quality of life of people with diabetes. They provide information and resources to the public and healthcare professionals. They develop and implement public health programs to prevent and manage diabetes (NIDDK, 2019) 
    • The Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ADCES) is an essential website providing necessary resources for diabetes education and care specialists. They encourage care for diabetes to ensure quality care. They promote diabetes education to help people live healthier lives. They are admirable resources for DCES, diabetics, and healthcare professionals interested in diabetes education and care (American Association of Diabetes Educators, 2019).

    Validity, reliability, relevance, and outcomes are the criteria used to assess the usefulness and significance of reputable sources. The accuracy and reliability of resources can be used to determine their validity, which explains why the conclusion is consistent. The sources of information must be ethically sound, relevant to the research issue, and logically connected. Finally, the study findings should be adequately presented in the journals (Oermann et al., 2020).

    Conclusion

    In conclusion, effective communication strategies between senior and junior nurses are pivotal. It promotes a collaborative and supportive environment for evidence-based practice in nursing. This allows new nurses to enhance their research skills and improve patient care. They are utilizing the resources within the hospital environment. The nurse’s careful selection of resources is based on credibility and relevance. It is essential for researching conditions like diabetes. The recommended credible sources like the American Diabetes Association, peer-reviewed journals, and reputable organizations help as valuable pillars for reliable information in pursuing nursing treatment that is evidence-based.
